According to the official Glock manual, a Glock pistol should be field stripped, cleaned and lubricated:
- when it is brand new & before the first time it is fired
- at least once a month
- after each time it is fired
- if it has been dropped
- if any malfunctions have occurred or if any defects are suspected
- as required (determined by the pistols exposure to the weather and environmental conditions
Cleaning a Glock pistol is fast and easy compared to many other handguns. It comes apart in seconds without any special tools. Normal cleaning requires field stripping the pistol into its main component parts:
- slide
- barrel
- recoil spring assembly
- receiver
- magazine
